Theodore Roosevelt Strube, Joshua’s first mayor, and his florist wife Sylvia never had any children, but they raised a town. Since the early 1900s when it was incorporated until 2008 when Sylvia passed, they were icons of this small Texas community.
Today the city of Joshua has a population of right around 5,000 people. Despite it’s close proximity to the bustling urban centers of Fort Worth and Dallas, Joshua retains its small-town charm. You won’t find any sprawling mansions or high-class condos here. The homes are modest and inexpensive, yet clean and well-kept.
The award winning Joshua Independent School District was formed back in 1902 and now covers areas of Cleburne and Burleson along with Joshua. This Texas Education Agency (TEA) Recognized District offers schooling from pre-k through high school. Among the 9 campuses throughout the district, North Joshua Elementary stands out as a school recognized by the TEA as “Exemplary.”
Despite its small size, the city of Joshua still boasts a number of dining establishments including Napoli pasta and pizza, The Laughing Pig, along with chain restaurants such as CiCi’s Pizza and Chicken Express. Nearby retail shopping is also available, saving you a trip fighting traffic into the city.
You’d be hard pressed to find a more idyllic place to live. There’s simply nothing like the peace and quiet of a rural life and the charm of a the nearby small-town atmosphere.
